Creating Personalized Silhouette Jewelry with Your Own Photos

Posted by Beth on Mar 22, 2023

Silhouette jewelry is a unique style of personalized jewelry that allows you to capture an image of your favorite person or people (or even pet), and turn it into a truly meaningful and unique keepsake.

You send us an image of your loved one(s), and we'll create a piece of silver jewelry from it.

Here are some ideas on how to take a picture that will make a great piece of silhouette jewelry. If you have any questions, just contact us, and we'll be happy to help you take the right photo, or choose from the photos you might already have.

How it works

Our expert digital artists painstakingly select the person or people from your photo, then create a version that's completely black. Next, we remove the background and replace it with white. Getting the details just right is essential to make sure the final silhouette piece captures your subject's unique qualities.

Then, we take that silhouette and etch/engrave it onto the charm that you've chosen, and use that to create your one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry.

The image at the top of this post is our My Silhouettes Necklace, but we can also put your silhouette on just about any product that we sell, including key chains (popular gifts for dad) & charm bracelets.

How to take a great picture for a silhouette

The silhouette will capture the outline of your subject. Ideally, your subject will be standing at your level, against a fairly uniform background. Having arms or legs a little away from the body will make for a silhouette that captures the subject's distinct outline.

You can encourage your subject to get a little crazy. These can make for great silhouettes, and that really capture your child's spirit.

If you keep your arms too close to your sides, you'll get something like this. Maybe not the most exciting silhouette?

If you're not sure which image would work best, just ask us. We'll be happy to look at the images you have and help you decide.
